Start with the decision
An event is a signal to review, not a conclusion about a driver. Separate device detection, automated analysis and the final human decision. Give reviewers the vehicle, time, journey context and available video before asking them to classify an event.
Design a proportionate review queue
Prioritise potential collisions and high-severity events, then repeated behaviours. Keep unavailable footage and low-confidence detections visible as exceptions. A missing clip must not be interpreted as safe driving, and an AI confidence value is not a probability of liability.
Close the loop with coaching
Record whether the event is confirmed, dismissed or inconclusive, with a reason and reviewer. For confirmed behaviours, agree one specific action with the driver and a review date. Recognise sustained improvement as well as identifying repeated risk.
Measure the whole process
Track review time, unresolved events, coaching completion and repeat-event rates per distance driven. Report dismissed events separately from genuine reductions in risk; filtering more noise does not itself prove a safer fleet.
Your action checklist
- Define escalation owners
- Agree review and dismissal reasons
- Compare rates using distance or driving hours
